Group chats; it’s a love hate resource. Sometimes it leads to irrelevant banter but on Friday night it led to a spontaneous gathering with friends.
One suggested sushi for dinner just as the work day was coming to an end, eight out of the ten in the group chat agreed to $2.50 sushi rolls. We arrived to Masaraki in Sheepshead Bay and our humorous server Alan welcomed us with some jokes and sake. As more friends arrived, we were served more sake and Sapporo. Then Alan was ready to take our order.
We ordered a variety of rolls, the Shrimp Tempura, Spicy Shrimp & Tuna, California, and more. We were then served and I began to mix my soy sauce and wasabi together creating a tangy spicy sauce and asked for the sweet and thick eel sauce. These moist, fresh and delicious sushi rolls were being dipped then devoured by us. I’m usually a fan of crunchy sushi rolls but the Spicy Tuna roll was my favorite bite of the night, I recommend you dip them in the eel sauce. It was an orgasmic experience.
The Pink Bunny roll was the most colorful of all the rolls (this is a premium roll). The rolls were covered with pink soy bean sheets and stuffed with eel, tuna, salmon and crunchy tempura. My second favorite Komeeda was the Mango Shrimp; jumbo shrimp sautéed with mango and asparagus and covered with a yellow Thai sweet chili sauce, served with a bowl of vegetable fried rice.
We ate and were reminiscing about the past summer and talking about our plans for this summer. Going to raves, music festivals, bachelor parties, international trips, watching the World Cup; it had us excited about the warmer weather. We started nagging on one another and one of us ordered orange juice… yes, orange juice with sushi...
I asked the server to take a group photo, after review… some of us looked chunky and those who did not look chunky ended the night with some fried ice cream. We our fun group dinner at Masakari ended with great sushi, quality time with friends and very economical bill for our food.
